Groundbreaking Cellulite Treatment Approved by the FDA
Cellfina, a nonsurgical treatment for eradicating cellulite has been approved by the FDA. The Cellfina™ cellulite treatment is done at a doctor’s office in less than an hour and leaves your skin beautifully smooth.
Cellfina treats the connective bands woven throughout the fat that pull down the skin, creating dimpling seen on the skin’s surface. The Cellfina™ cellulite procedure works by precisely treating these tethered bands, causing them to fully release. Similar to a rubberband under tension, once released, the treated skin bounces back to smooth itself out in as little as three days.
For the millions of women all around the world that have been fighting cellulite in vain for decades now, this announcement will be very warmly welcomed. Cellfina is being dubbed the revolutionary new treatment in the ongoing battle against cellulite and quite rightly so. In all the years that cellulite treatment creams have been developing, there are many that work but not on a long-lasting basis. This is the real appeal of Cellfina, the fact that the effects are long term and after only one treatment too.
The Cellfina™ System is intended for long-term improvement in the appearance of cellulite in the buttocks and thigh areas of adult females. The most common side effects reported were soreness, tenderness, and bruising.
Cellfina is an automated form of subcision, a way to sever the individual septa that anchor the skin to deep tissue, much like buttons in a sofa cushion anchor the cloth with a strong thread. Swelling of the fat cells between the septa causes the telltale puckering. Each wobbly cell is treated individually, starting with an injection of the pain killer lidocaine. After the device is properly positioned, it sucks up a pinch of tissue, and then a tiny sharp-edged needle automatically slides under the skin and cuts the thread.
Buttocks and thighs are where most women suffer from cellulite, but for some the embarrassment spreads further into the abdomen and down their legs. Safety and effectiveness in these other anatomical areas has not yet been established by the Cellfina™ System but trials are ongoing. The treatment of Cellfina is only available through a licensed physician. For full product and safety information, visit cellfina.com/IFU.
Cellfina was originally approved for showing results lasting up to one full year after treatment, however this new approval states that the results of a single, minimally invasive treatment can reduce “the appearance of cellulite on the buttocks and thighs with no loss of benefit for up to two years.” The approval was based on a two-year, multicenter study involving 55 patients. This is in no doubt a very exciting development for many women, not only celebrities and models, but ordinary women lacking in confidence at the swimming pool and in general dictated what they wear by their self concious awareness of their cellulite.
Independent evaluators concluded that Cellfina improved the appearance of cellulite in 98 percent of patients at the two-year mark, the longest approval for any cellulite treatment. And results can even last longer, says Robert Weiss, an associate professor of dermatology at the University of Maryland and the lead investigator on the study.
Aftereffects can include up to two weeks of bruising and swelling and, rarely, hemosiderosis (a big bruise that can last for a month). “Most patients are really happy—they just have to make it through the first few days of tenderness when sitting,” Weiss told us. “But the more you sit after the procedure, the faster you see results. A refreshing change from hearing ‘the more you exercise, the more you see results.'” This revolutionary treatment is very exciting. It seems that the treatment is more effective on the buttocks than the thighs, but still great on both.
